5 Things You Need to Run Ads

When you’re ready to run ads, it’s important that you have everything prepared beforehand. If you’re going to shell out some of your hard-earned money to run ads, you’ll want to make sure they are effective, right? Getting into the backend of an ad manager can be overwhelming, so we’ve put together a shortlist of 5 things you need to run ads so that you can get them up and running as soon as today.

You Need a Target Audience to Run Ads

When you’re running ads, you need to decide who you are going to run them to. Contrary to what you may believe, “everyone in the world” isn’t your target audience. Your product or service solves a problem or somehow enriches a person’s life, so make sure you figure out who that person is and what problem you are fixing. This can be done through empathy mapping, competitor analysis and other tricks.

Call to Action

So you’ve figured out who you are serving your ad to, now what do you want them to do once they see it? Is it to buy now, sign up or to follow you? You’ve got to make it clear, crisp and easy for your target audience to figure out or else they are going to keep on scrolling. The longer it takes them to figure out what they need to do, the less likely they are to convert.

5 Things You Need to Run Ads

Your Keywords

It’s important that you know what your SEO keywords are when you’re getting ready to run ads. This is especially true when it comes to PPC campaigns. Don’t just pull them out of thin air, either – figuring out your keywords takes careful research. What are the highest ranked search terms for your business in your area? The answers just might surprise you.

Good Content

Now that you know who to serve your ad to, what they will do when they get it and what keywords it took to get to them, you need to show them some great content. An ugly ad is just as bad, or worse, as no ad at all. Make sure your copywriting is compelling, engaging and not too sales-y. In addition, you will want to make sure that your photography is on-point. If you’re running social media ads, make sure your photos are lifestyle-oriented and not just boring ol’ product shots. A little investment in both of these things can make all the difference, so don’t be afraid to outsource.

Be Ready to Fail

You never know what will happen until you launch your ad, so don’t be discouraged if it doesn’t perform well at first. Take it as a learning opportunity and see what you can fix. All it will do is make your ads better and better, so stay open-minded to change and making tweaks.
